The Government of the State of Amazonas commenced participation in the GSF on 9 April 2013. The focal point agency is the Secretary for Environment and Sustainable Development (SDS). The SDS fully endorsed the project prepared by the Federal University of Amazonas (UFAM) intitled “Digital hydro-geomorphological mapping of the Guiana Shield”. The UFAM submitted the final version of the project proposal on 27 October 2013. The Secretary for Rural Production (SEPROR) will participate in the project as the implementing partner to the GSF. The proposal review and approval process is ongoing.

The Forestry Institute of Amapá (IEF) submitted a project proposal intitled “Technical Support for Incorporating Environmental Services into State-level programs in Amapá – Brazil” to the GSF on 10 September 2013, for funding. This project received ‘no-objection’ from the RAB on 11 October 2013. The main goal of the project is to provide technical support for the Amapá state government in planning the payment for environmental services component of the Pro- Extractivism Program (PEP) and the Family Farming Territorial Programme (PROTAF). Negotiations between GSF and IEF for funding of the project are ongoing.
This project replaces the one previously submitted by SETEC (see below).
E-mail sent by SETEC to the GSF on 14 October 2013:
“Dear Patrick Chesney, the objective of this e-mail is to inform that no there is any impediment on the part of Amapá on the project sent by Ana Euler, Director of IEF. I also inform that in function of the need and conditions that IEF has in the moment, we decided, in common agreement, that the pré-proposal sent by SETEC to GSF would be substituted by the project sent by IEF, as Ana Euler had suggested to you in meeting in Surinam.
Antonio Claudio Carvalho
Secretary of Science and Technology of the State of Amapá”
The Government of the State of Amapá recognises the opportunity presented by Guiana Shield Facility (GSF) in the implementation of the State’s sustainable development policy. The State Secretary for Science and Technology (SETEC) has been appointed the focal point and will lead the State participation with the GSF.
SETEC submitted a proposal titled “Community Management of the Multiple use of the Forest in environment around the North Highway Perimeter (BR210): community of Água Fria, Pedra Branca do Amapari, AP”. The project proposes to conduct studies in the area comprising the community of Água Fria, with the intent of constructing an information database on the socio-diversity products and to encourage the multiple uses of the forest in keeping with the State development policy.
SETECT is currently revising its original proposal based on recommendations of GSF/UNDP Brazil Technical Review Panel. On resubmission, the proposal is expected to be approved by the Regional Advisory Board.
