PROMOTING CONSERVATION. SUPPORTING SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT.
The Suriname REDD+ Readiness Preparation Proposal (R-PP) is a true grassroots product and serves as a roadmap for REDD+ consultations as well as a blueprint for government and civil society engagement on Suriname’s climate compatible development. The World Bank’s approval of Suriname’s R-PP document in June 2013 qualified the country to receive funding and implement REDD+ readiness activities nationally.

The Guiana Shield Facility (GSF) being a multi-donor funding facility for the long-term financing of national and regional activities to conserve ecosystems, protect biodiversity and to sustain human livelihoods within the Guiana Shield eco-region operationalized its delivery mechanism through the issue of grants to project beneficiaries in support of REDD+ readiness activities in 2012.
The Guyana Forestry Commission (GFC) was appointed the focal agency in Guyana for the GSF by the Government of Guyana, recognizing the contribution the GSF can make to the development of the national Monitoring Reporting and Verification System (MRVS).

French Guiana is formally participating in the GSF since 29 January 2013. The focal point for the GSF in French Guiana is: Direction de l'Environnement, de l'Aménagement et du Logement (DEAL) de Guyane.
The GSF is not directly supporting a project in French Guiana. The GSF and DEAL Guyane are collaborating to set up WAVINGS – Water Views & Information Network in the Guiana Shield.

Colombia has been working in the preparation stages of REDD strategy and welcomes the GSF as an opportunity to enhance conservation and REDD+ activities. GSF is considered by Colombia as an instrument to protect biodiversity and contribute towards poverty reduction and natural resources management through the implementation of assessment methodologies and payment for environmental services.
