The mission of IES is: “To advance global environmental security by promoting the maintenance of the regenerative capacity of life-supporting eco-systems." It works around the globe to provide policymakers with a methodology to tackle environmental security risks in time. It supports GSF with respect to monitoring, international legal advice and acceptance and embedding of the project in local and national politics. The IES coordinates delivery of input from the IUCN NL, SarVision, EcoSecurities, and the Global Canopy Programme, to the GSF.
Founded in 1987 on the belief that science, economics and local communities all play vital roles in international conservation, CI works in more than 30 countries worldwide with more than 1,000 partners in the public, private and independent sectors — from indigenous groups and community leaders to captains of industry and heads of state.
Through innovative approaches to conservation science, partnership and field demonstration, CI has empowered societies to value and protect the natural world that sustains us all. With its strong presence in the Guiana Shield, CI has been working for over 25 years on conservation and sustainable development initiatives in the region.
The World Wildlife Fund has already been working in the Guianas for many years to stop the degradation of the natural environment and conserve the unique biodiversity of the area. A very important focus of their work is to promote a more environmentally friendly way of gold mining in the Guianas. WWF provides GSI with advice and support.
