The Iwokrama International Center is GSI's first pilot site. In this article, we would like to share their milestones as well as updates of Iwokrama's core activities and programmes. Below, you can follow a link to their complete newsletter in PDF-format.

"In January 2008, the entire Iwokrama Rainforest achieved Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) Certification. With certification, new markets will become available thus allowing our company to help in the national development by developing markets for non-traditional species. Moreover, we will be in a position to advise other local and regional companies who are interested in Certification. A certified operation and forest also provides an excellent space for professional researchers and students interested in carrying out valuable research in related areas.

We also welcomed Mr. Dane Gobin as the Chief Executive Officer. Mr Gobin brings a wealth of practical commercial, business development and management experience to the Centre and to the CEO position. He has been instrumental in the development of the Centre’s sustainable timber business and has overseen the growth in the Centre’s eco-tourism and training businesses.

Included as well in this issue are updates about the North Rupununi Wildlife Festival, Training and Ecotourism activities and the Canopy Capital Environmental Services Agreement."
